7th grade Lady Tigers win 3 straight games

The Batesville junior high basketball teams finished up before the Christmas break on December 9 when they hosted the junior  high Warriors from Senatobia.

The seventh grade girls slammed Senatobia 20-1. In the first half, the Lady Tigers only scored four points but held Senatobia to one point. The second half was all the Lady Tigers as they scored 19 points and held Senatobia scoreless.

Leading the team were Ta’Haira Bean with 11 points followed by Jasmine Wright with six and Alexis Fondren with three.

The eighth grade girls came up short against Senatobia, losing 19-16. Senatobia outscored Batesville 13-6 in the first half. The Lady Tigers out scored Senatobia 10-6 in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the first half deficit.

Scoring for the Lady Tigers were Tyraveen Collins with 11 points, Veuncle Braxton, 3; Shanterrica Hunt and Tyesha Holman, 1 each. Leading scorer for Senatobia was Kierra Jackson with six points.

The seventh grade boys lost to Senatobia 20-17. Donald Twilley led the Tigers with nine points followed by Donavan Shaw with five. Adding two points each were Ololwain Hoskins, Draelan Porter and Jalen Ford. Yates Pepper led Senatobia with eight points.

Senatobia hammered the eighth grade Tigers 30-18. Senatobia jumped out to a 18-4 first half lead.

In the second half the Tigers outscored Senatobia 14-12. Ryan Lee and Darrell Henderson scored four points each for the Tigers while Brycen Robinson added three. Scoring two points each were Desmond Lester, Anfernee Benson and Kamdon Edwards.

Previous games following the Thanksgiving break  included a road trip to Grenada on November 29 when Batesville took three of four games.

The seventh grade girls won 17-7. The eighth grade girls won 21-9. The seventh grade boys won 19-3 and the eighth grade boys lost 30-20.

On December 2, Batesville hosted Lafayette winning three of four games.

Seventh grade girls won 27-5. The eighth grade girls won 10-7. The seventh grade boys won 21-14 and eighth grade boys fell 18-9.

The junior high teams will return to the court on January 13 when they travel to Oxford. On January 14 Batesville will engage Pope in a  inter-school rivalry match.

On January 14, the eighth grade will play in the North Panola tournament. Batesville will wrap up the season on January 21 when they host Pope.
