Lady Tigers still looking for a win

The South Panola Lady Tiger’s basketball team has started the 2010 season 0-3 after playing two games on the road and one at home.

The young team opened the season on the road at Grenada on November 16 and lost 60-29.

Leading the team in scoring was Brittany Moore with nine points. Also scoring were Dorian Winfield, seven; Crystal Contreras, six; Christa Brown, four; and Jasmine Sims, three.

Grenada led 19-10 after the first quarter and 31-21 at halftime. Grenada out scored South Panola 29-12 in the second half.

The Lady Tigers fell by 14 points on the road at Water Valley 49-35 on November 18.

The leading scorer was Moore with nine points followed by Sims with seven; Winfield and Christa Brown, six each; Chresha Brown with four and Contreras with three.

At the end of the first quarter, Water Valley had a 10-7 lead. Water Valley added 14 in the second quarter while holding the Lady Tigers to six, giving Water Valley a 24-13 lead at the half.

The third quarter did not get any better for the Lady Tigers as they only scored eight while Water Valley scored 16 in another double-digit quarter.

In the fourth quarter the Lady Tigers out scored Water Valley 14-8 but it was not enough to overcome the 19-point deficit the Lady Tigers had going into the fourth quarter.

In the home opener the Lady Tigers fell hard to Horn Lake, 64-30, on Tuesday night.

The Lady Tigers held their own in the first quarter down 13-8 going into the second quarter.

With a little over two minutes left in the second quarter, the Lady Eagles started to pull away. Horn Lake led 33-22 at the half.

It was the third quarter that made a huge difference in the game. Horn Lake out scored the Lady Tigers 16-4. The same scenario played out in the fourth quarter as Horn Lake  scored 15 points and held South Panola to four.

The leading scorer for the Lady Tigers was Moore with 10 followed with Winfield with eight, Sims with six, Christa Brown with four and Raven Brown with two.

The Lady Tigers were back in action at home last night hosting Cleveland. Monday and Tuesday the Lady Tigers will participate in the Cleveland tournament.
