Elton Cagle Jr.
COMO–Elton Cagle Jr., 66, died Friday, November 5, 2010, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were Monday at Harmontown Baptist Church. Burial was in Free Springs Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home of Senatobia had charge.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elton Cagle.
Survivors include: his wife, Betty Jo Cagle; two daughters, Tina Marie Blackwood and Christy Diane Tracy and his mother, Irene Cagle, all of Harmontown; two sisters, Janet Meador of Hardy, Ark. and Bonnie Knight of Mathiston; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
BATESVILLE–Martha Elzora Gunter Keen, 86, died Saturday, November 6, 2010, at Golden Living Center.
Services were Monday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Keen, born Sept. 17, 1924, in Tula, to the late Harvey Alexander and Effie Lindsay Gunter, was a member of First Faith Baptist Church and retired from Whirlpool Stove Factory with 32 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Louis Keen and her daughter, Carolyn Keen Wolfe.
Survivors include: one son, Robert Howard Keen of Batesville and her grandchildren, Angelia Keen McIvor, Christy Keen Jones, Dee Dee Keen Box and Holli Keen Carlisle.
Memorials may be made to First Faith Baptist Church, 3254 Sardis Lake Drive, Batesville, 38606.
OXFORD–Jacob Harold Johnson, 20, died Saturday, November 6, 2010, in Sardis.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Hal Johnson will officiated. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Johnson, born Nov. 13, 1989, in Batesville, to Jerry H. Johnson of Batesville and Pam M. Johnson of Oxford, worked for Parker Hannifan as a tool setter and attended South Panola High School.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Barney Inman.
Survivors along with his parents include: one brother, Houston B. Johnson of Oxford; one sister, Maggie J. Lantrip; his grandparents, Irby and Norma Johnson of Batesville and Ruby Inman of Sardis and his nephews, Logan Smith and Caleb Karstin.
Shelby Jean Price
MILLPORT, Ala.-Shelby Jean Price, 69, died Monday, November 1, 2010, at her residence. She was the sister of William Davis and Betty Davis Tutor of Batesville and Bonnie Davis Bailey of Enid.
Services were Friday at Dowdle Funeral Home. Melvin Mordecas officiated.
Shelby, born June 19, 1941, in Water Valley, to the late Lee Russell Green and Margie Louisa Blaker, worked over 15 years at Weyerhaeuser.
Survivors along with her sibings include: one son, Jason Price of Arlington, Va.; and two sisters, Connie Davis Lambert of Melbourne, Fla. and Janice Gant Baxley of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.
Darlene Marie Peng Walters
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Ark.–Darlene Marie Peng Walters, 68, formerly of Batesville, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Baxter Regional Hospital in Mountain Home, Ark.
Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Doug Pepper officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Walters, born July 29, 1942, in Memphis to George Franklin and Myrtle Lucille Donnelly Peng, was a member of Foothills Baptist Church.
She worked at Fitzgerald’s as a credit clerk for 11 years.
Survivors include: her husband, Benny Elvin Walters of Mountain View; one son, Jarry Aaron Walters of Senatobia; one daughter, Amy Margaret Hebbler of Cody, Wy.; seven grandchildren.
BATESVILLE–Shirley Morgan Fortune, 74, died Sunday, November 7, 2010, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Batesville Church of Christ. Michael Bates and John Pigg will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.
Fortune, born Jan. 12, 1936, in Sardis, to Joe Knox and Veta S. Morgan, was a member of Batesville Church of Christ. She was a homemaker and office manager of Fortune Real Estate for 33 years.
Survivors include: her husband, Jimmie R. “Jim” Fortune of Batesville; one daughter, Dawn Fortune of Memphis; one son, Steve R. Fortune of Cabot, Ark. and one grandchild, Meri Morgan Fortune of Batesville.
