BPD: woman gave Social over phone
By Billy Davis
A Batesville resident was hoodwinked into divulging her Social Security number over the phone, according to a police report filed Monday.
The caller claimed to be calling from the Social Security Administration and promised to send the scam victim a new card, according to the report from Patrolman Will Parrish.
For any follow-up questions, the scammer left the woman a phone number. The phone number was real: when she called, she was talking to the American Heart Association.
The victim told police her bank account showed $395 had been taken after the phone call from a firm called JBF Financial.
