 George Austin Chunn

MOBILE, Ala.–George Austin Chunn, 93, formerly of Batesville, died Sunday, September 26, 2010, at Norwood Point in Mobile, Ala.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at Forrest Memorial Park at 1 p.m. Dr. Robert Self will officiate. Chunn will have full military honors. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Chunn, born March 1, 1917, to Mattie Rakestraw and George Albert Chunn, graduated from Center High School in Union County. He was a self employed cookie distributor. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elna Smith Chunn.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sandra Chunn Trussell of Mobile, Ala.; two sons, George Darrell Chunn of Austin, Texas and Benny Chunn of Hattiesburg; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 Latonia “Tanya” Rachelle Keen

BATESVILLE–Latonia “Tanya” Rachelle Keen, 33, died Saturday, October 9, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home.  

She was a graduate of the University of Mississippi where she received degrees in journalism, nursing and political science. She was a member of Blue Lake Baptist Church in Lambert. She was a former news anchor and reporter for WABG-News in Greenville. She was a paralegal with Walker Law Firm in Batesville.

She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Joe Keen.

Survivors include: two daughters, Madeline Aldridge of Batesville and Gabriella Denton Smith of Greenville; one son, Christopher Michael Aldridge of Batesville; her mother, Linda Coleman Wolfe and step father Wiley Wolfe of Batesville; one sister, Latisha Kay Rich of Courtland;   two brothers, David Andrew Self of Hernando and Gaston Allen Self of Crowder and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Self of Crowder.

 Jarrette Jerome “Romeo” Pope

POPE–Jarrette Jerome “Romeo” Pope, 39, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at his residence.

Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Nehemiah Martin will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Pope, born April 19, 1971, to S.T. Ward and Mamie Lee Pope, was a member of Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Jasmine Shanell Wooten, Jakellie Michelle Pope and Jamekia Rochelle Pope, all of Memphis; one son, Antonio Jarrette Pope of Memphis; three sisters, Michelle Pope Woodard of Batesville, Pamela A. Pope of St. Louis and Natasha Umeki Pope of Pope and two brothers, Randall Pope of Batesville and Anthony Pope of Lambert.
