Willie Stone “Billie” Allen

SARDIS– Willie Stone Allen, 84, died Friday, August 6, 2010, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

Services were Monday at Sardis United Methodist Church. Rev. Dayna Goff officiated. Burial was in Davis Chapel Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Allen, born Nov. 13, 1925, in Jackson, to Robert L. and Willie Taylor Stone, was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church. She was a member of the DAR and Sardis Woman’s Club. She was the activities director of the Sardis Nursing Home and enjoyed fishing on her family farm in the Davis Chapel community, which has been in the family for four generations.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Taylor Holcombe Young.

Survivors include: her husband of 68 years, Robert Allen Sr.; one brother, Robert L. Stone Jr. of Jackson; two daughters, Linda Allen Young of Jackson and Nancy Moore of Sardis; two sons, Robert Allen Jr. of Senatobia and Richard Allen of Sardis; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to The Davis Chapel UMC cemetery fund, 2919 McKinney Rd., Sardis, MS, 38666.

Edra H. Mitchell

LAMBERT–Edra Mitchell, 84, died Saturday, August 7, 2010, at her residence.

Services were Monday at Blue Lake Baptist Church in Crowder. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Rev. Jess Chadwick and Tommy Mitchell officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Mitchell, born Dec. 23, 1925, to the late Dalton and Lucy Washington Holloway, was a retired factory worker of Garman in Lambert and was a member of Blue Lake Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Noonan Mitchell.

Survivors include: three daughters, Geneva Dale Bowles of Lambert, Judy Marie Petit of Oxford and Peggy Jane Reid of Crowder; three sons, Johnny Wayne Mitchell and Thomas Eugene Mitchell, both of Lambert and Tony Curtis Mitchell of Milwaukee, Wis.; one sister, Christine Merideth of Water Valley; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.
