A fourth of July celebration turned tragic for a Senatobia family visiting Sardis Lake.

According to Panola County Coronor Gracie Grant Gulledge, the body of 23- year old Brandon Shorty was recovered from the waters at Paradise Point around 9 p.m.

Gulledge said Shorty had been swimming with family members and drowned. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Emergency management director Daniel Cole said representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Panola County Sheriff’s Department, Sardis Lake Fire Department, Mississippi Game and Fish and Panola County Search and Rescue assisted in the search and recovery.
