Rain delayed games reset

The consistent deluge of rain has caused some changes in the outdoor sports schedule for the upcoming week.

The North Delta fastpitch softball team only played one game against Indianola Thursday and won to remain undefeated in the district.

The Lady Green Wave will host Marshall Academy today in district action at 4 p.m. They are set to play Indianola in a district make up game tomorrow, but if they win today, that game may not be necessary, according to head coach Brooke Turner.

The Lady Green Wave were scheduled to play Delta Academy in non-district action yesterday but the score was not available at press time.

North Delta, No. 1 team in 1AA, will host the first round of the North AA tournament  on Saturday.  Marshall or Indianola will be the No. 2 team in 1AA.

Also in the tournament are No. 1 and No. 2 in 2AA Carroll Academy and Oak Hill Academy. Rankings in that category have not been determined.

Teams in 3AA are No. 1 Leake Academy and No. 2 Hillcrest Christian School.

Times and matchups will be released Wednesday and printed in The Panolian on Friday, along with the starting time of the tournament.

SP 9th Grade

The South Panola ninth grade football team swapped venues with Clarksdale and played at home yesterday. Monday, September 28, the game will be played in Clarksdale at 5:30 p.m.

Rest of week

Batesville Jr. High football is scheduled to host Oxford today at 5 p.m. Last week’s game against Lafayette was cancelled due to rain.

Thursday is a busy day. South Panola slow pitch will host Grenada at 4 p.m. North Panola Jr. High will host Charleston at 5:30 p.m. South Panola Volleyball will be in Columbus at 5:30.

At 7 p.m. North Delta Jr. High will host Marshall Academy. Pee Wee football starts at 5:30.

Friday night football

All three of the local high school teams return to action Friday following a bye week.

North Panola is the only team at home and will open the district season hosting the Senatobia Warriors at 7:30 p.m. This is the final week public schools will start at 7:30. Beginning October, games will start at 7 p.m.

South Panola will open the district season at Horn Lake at 7:30 p.m.

North Delta will play its second district game of the season at Marshall Academy in Holly Springs at 7:30 p.m.

Upcoming Homecoming festivities will be honored at the schools in October. October 9 North Panola will host Rosa Fort. October 16 South Panola will host Tupelo. October 23, North Delta will host Greenville Christian.
