Wanted: Extreme Sports Fans for contest

Are you or someone you know an extreme sports fan? Not just a fair weather fan. A fan at the game no matter what the weather is like or how great the distance to an away game?

If that description fits you or someone you know, The Panolian sports department wants to know.

The Panolian is conducting a contest to find the most Extreme Sports Fans in Panola County. This contest celebrates the loyal fans that make sporting events fun.

The contest begins today, June 2 and will conclude Wednesday, July 1. The winner will be announced Friday, August 7, in our special section.

Extreme Sports Fans go beyond the call of duty to support their sport and teams. These are the people the teams expect and take for granted that they will be at games, listen to them on the radio or look at them on television no matter what they have to go through to witness games.

These fans give coaches and players advice from the easy chair, the telephone or face-to-face. They know their stuff and gladly share it, with or without permission.

These fans buy the team paraphernalia, decorate the house with team merchandise, decorate their bodies with jerseys, paint or don a team uniform for the game. Some, who may not have the financial means, have knowledge that goes back to the inauguration of their sport and make sure those around them know what they know. They tell you over and over. Ask who the current and recent past presidents are and they stumble. Ask them the history of Archie Manning and they will tell you what Archie does not even know himself.

You know the ones. You just may be the one.

The Panolian needs to know who the fans are from these sports: football, baseball, basketball, softball, golf, hockey, NASCAR, tennis and wrestling. Nominate yourself. The Extreme Fan would because no one knows you better than yourself.

The judges are from outside of Panola County and will be revealed in the special section on August 7.

Each nominee who meets the criteria will receive a packet sponsored by The Panolian, Special T’s and the South Panola Cheerleaders.

Plus there will be an award for the grand prize winner and for second and third place winners with prizes from the Panola Rebel Club, South Panola High school, North Delta School, North Panola, Mississippi State University, Ole Miss, Panola Dogs, Mississippi RiverKings, Memphis Motorsports and others.

Fill out the nomination form found in this section and mail, email or bring by The Panolian, P.O. Box 1616, 363 Highway 51 North, Batesville, MS 38606; email: psports@panolian.com. No phone nominations will be accepted, but if you have any questions, call Myra Bean at 563-4591 ext. 19.

With the nomination form, you may also submit photos to help tell your story. A form for the person nominated is included and needs to be filled out by the nominee.
