Tigers fall 6-5 to Desoto Central

In what took over a week to complete, Desoto Central edged South Panola 6-5 Monday night in a game that was suspended due to rain February 27.

Play was resumed in the top of the second with the Tigers leading 1-0. Desoto Central scored one run in each of the next three innings to take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. South Panola responded with four runs in the top of the fifth  to take a 5-3 lead.

Dane Broome and Ryan Maxwell led off the inning with a pair of singles. After Joseph Blair and Ethan Bright walked, Coty Bryant laced a double that produced a pair of runs. The lead was short-lived however as the Jaguars retaliated with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to retake the lead for good.

Brice Belvin pitched three innings in relief while taking the loss. David Renfroe pitched two innings, giving up a pair of runs. Bright started the game and pitched 1.1 innings. The Tigers recorded five hits in the contest with Bright adding a single.

South Panola returns to action tonight at home against Tupelo starting at 5 p.m with the Junior Varsity followed at 7 with the Varsity.

The Tigers will then square off against Madison Central in a home tournament tomorrow starting at 1 p.m followed by a Southaven – Madison Central contest at 3:30 p.m..

Spring Break will be a busy one for South Panola as they will take part in the Madison Central Tournament beginning Monday morning at 11 a.m against Terry. The Tigers will then take on Brandon Tuesday at 3 p.m and will close the tournament Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. versus Quitman.
