Green Wave downs Strayhorn

The North Delta School varsity boys basketball squad opened up the 2008-’09 season with a 68-50 victory over Strayhorn Thursday night.

Geri Lamm led the Green Wave in scoring with 23 points and two rebounds. Taylor Herron followed with 18 points and three boards. Tres Brasell added eight points to go along with four rebounds while Jim Tom Copeland and Cobin Baker registered seven points each. Bateman Greenlee, Matthew Barefoot and Carson Bailey rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.

In the opening game on the evening, the North Delta Lady Green Wave jumped out to a 15-4 first quarter lead then cruised to a 59-20 win. Linsey Herbert paced the Wave with 20 points followed by Laci Dubravec and Sara Waldrip with 11 and 10 points each. Lauren Kimzey also scored in double figures with 10 points while Bradi Bead had eight points.

North Delta returns to action Saturday at Kirk with the seventh grade girls and boys tipping off at 2 p.m followed by the junior high boys and girls with the varsity girls rounding out play.

The varsity boys contest has been canceled due to the Kirk football team which is still in the playoffs.

The Green Wave returns home Monday against Calhoun at 4 p.m with a pair of junior high games and varsity girls action.
