Operation Christmas Child Hills-Delta Team invites all to “Reaching the Unreached” 2020 Vision and Celebration Event at Batesville First Baptist Church from 2-4 p.m. Please RSVP to Linda Pitcock at 662-934-4346.  This event is for everyone who is interested in Operation Christmas Child. We welcome everyone who is already involved and are always looking for individuals who are new to our Packing of Shoeboxes. The project of Samaritian’s Purse collects shoebox gifts- filled with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys- and delivers them to children in need around the world. Since 2009, more than 18.9 million children who have received a shoebox gift have participated in program where they learn what it means to follow Jesus and share their faith with friends and family.

Cedar Oaks Guild will host a Valentine Party  from 2-4 p.m. at Cedar Oaks Historic Home, 601 Murray Drive, Oxford. There will be cookies, crafts and family fun.

Feb. 11

Feb. 14

The Panola County Soil and Water Conservation District will give away trees in observation of Arbor Day. A variety of Oaks, Cypress, Redbuds, Persimmons, and Dogwoods will be given away. The trees will be available at the USDA Service Center, located at 175 Broom Ridge Road, in Batesville, beginning at 8 a.m.  For more information please call 578-8045, ext. 3.

The North Mississippi League of Women Voters is celebrating the 100th birthday of the founding of the national League of Women Voters at The Lyric Theater in Oxford from 5-8 p.m. Everyone is invited.

The Batesville Police Dept. has asked for all local civic organizations to send a representative to a planning meeting fir Picnicking With Police at 8:30 a.m. at the Panola Partnership office.

March 6

The Emily Jones Pointer Public Library in Como will host An Evening with Adam Gussow. He will discuss his book Beyond the Crossroads and preview the documentary Satan & Adam (now on Netflix). It profiles his collaboration with blues guitarist Sterling “Mr. Satan” Magee in 1980s Harlem. The talk and book signing is from 6 to 8 p.m. call 662-526-5283 for more information.

March 17

The 24th annual Panola Partnership Meeting and Banquet at 211 Main in Como will be held with updates of economic development in 2019, social opportunities, awards, and dinner.

April 18

The annual Batesville Springfest Pageant will be held at Batesville Junior High School. Contact the offices of Panola Partnership at 563-3126 for more info.

April 25

The 11th annual Showoff of the Square – Open Car Show will begin at 8 a.m. Open to all makes and models of trucks, race Carrs, race trucks, and motorcycles. Cash and door prizes will be given away. Concessions will be provided by Merea Ministries. Profits from the show are donated to Baptist Children’s Village and other local needs. $20 entry fee for cars/trucks. May 15-16

Plans for the 22nd annual SpringFest are being finalized. The two-day music festival will feature carnival rides, food vendors, arts and crafts, and a full lineup of a variety of musical genres.

Mondays

Gymnastics for kids is held 5-6 p.m. for ages 4-6 and 6-6:45 p.m.for ages 7 and up. Class follows the South Panola school schedule. Call 710-6121 for information.

Tuesdays

The Panola County Election Commissioners meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Courthouse at 2 p.m.

The American Legion meets the third Tuesday of every month at the VFW at 5:30 p.m.

The Panola County Humane Society meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Batesville Public Library at 5:30 p.m.

Panola County Cancer Relief Organization meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Public Library at 6 p.m.

Al-Anon Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at Oxford University United Methodist Church, 424 S. Tenth St., Oxford. Take the Tyler St. entrance.

The Bologna Performing Arts Center on the campus of Delta State University will present six films and filmmakers in a series that will run through the spring.  Along with a screening of the film, the filmmakers are made available to the local community for workshops and discussions. The filmmakers also conduct a Q&A with audiences following the film screening to discuss the film, their subject, and their work. All films will be screened on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. Admission is free to all Southern Circuit films. Schedule is at www.bolognapac.com.

Thursdays

Batesville VFW Post 4968 and Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of every month at the VFW building at 6 p.m.

Saturdays

Every third Saturday of the month, the Batesville Lions Club will have Karaoke Night starting at 6 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club building off Tiger Drive.
