Green Wave earns split at home against Kirk

The North Delta Lady Green Wave moved into a first-place tie in District 1-3A with Clarksdale Lee after they defeated Kirk Academy 72-62 at home Friday night.

The win marks the 13th straight home victory for the Lady Waves dating back to last season. North Delta improved to 4-1 in league play and 13-4 overall.

North Delta led 33-20 at halftime, but had to withstand a second half surge by Kirk that saw the Raiderettes pull within four points at 51-47 early in the fourth quarter.

Hannah Bollinger knocked down two technical foul free throws to give North Delta a 67-58 advantage with 2:23 remaining in the game.

The Lady Waves were 19-of-24 from the charity stripe including 15-for-19 in the fourth quarter.

Ally Alford led all scorers with 34 points while Faith Bollinger followed a efficient 16 points. Shelby Boone added eight with Hannah Bollinger supplying five.

Emy Cay Donaldson and Eliza Morris finished with three points each. Sayle Stennett contributed with two  and Breck Brewer chipped in with one point.

The North Delta boys grabbed a early 5-0 first-quarter lead, but could not hold the momentum as the Raiders went on a 12-0 run to close out the opening period.

Colin Hartman paced North Delta(2-6, 0-4) with 12 points while Drake Barton added eight. Ben Rowsey followed with four as Ryan Gibson rounded out the scoring with two points.

Kirk took a 29-11 lead midway though the third quarter  before North Delta cut the deficit in half at 34-25 on a Barton basket at the 6:25 mark of the fourth quarter.

The Raiders then went on 11-1 run to close out the game as Chase Rose led all scorers with 21 points.

North Delta and Kirk split their junior high games as the Raiders came away with a 40-14 win in the girls game while the Green Wave boys received 21 points from Cody Bost in a 43-30 victory.

Ethan Jeffcoat added nine while Ridge Aldison chipped in with six points. Matt Johnson registered four with Will Rowsey contributing with two points.

North Delta visits Magnolia Heights today at 4 p.m before traveling to Clarksdale Lee Friday.
