Russo qualifies for state in 50-meter freestyle

Both the South Panola High School boys and girls swim teams came away with strong showings in the Tiger swim meet Tuesday at the Tupelo Aquatic Center.

The girls placed 7th overall while the boys placed 8th out of 12 schools entered.

Gabriella Russo qualified for the North State meet Oct. 19 in Cleveland by finishing 21st out of 86 entries in the 50 meter freestyle.

Sam Kirkland placed 26th out of 79 in the boys 50 meter freestyle.

Other notable individual swimmers include: Jozsi Caine (35th) in the girls 100 meter freestyle, Karson Price (31st) in the boys 100 freestyle and Hayden DeGeorge (9th) in the 100 meter backstroke.

In the girls 200 medley relay, Chaney Beth Hannaford, Caitlin Baird, Maybree Neth and Russo finished in 9th place.

The girls 400 meter freestyle relay the team of Russo, Caine, Addison Lawrence and Neth placed 6th.

Warren Herron, Baylor Scammon, Blayne Willis and DeGeorge finish 8th in the boys 200 medley relay.

In the boys 400 freestyle relay, Sam Kirkland, Scammon, Willis and Price garnered a 6th place finish.
