Aug. 10

A benefit Corn Hole Tournament will be held at Squirrel Camp, Highway 322, Crowder, for Janey Hankins who is battling Stage 4 cancer. The tournament will start at 3 p.m. at $20 per team. The Hankins family has been a staple in Crowder. All money goes to Ms. Janey. All donations appreciated, even if you can’t attend or don’t participate in the tournament. 2020 Census Jobs are available now. Census recruiting will be ongoing at Batesville Public Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All interested persons should no attend.

The Panola County chapter of the NAACP will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Batesville Public Library.

Aug. 22

Getting Organized for a Hectic Life, a Quick Bites program presented by the Mississippi State Extension Service, will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the County Extension Building. The interactive video will be led by Natalie Ray, Clay County Extension Agent II. Some people are gifted with the skill of organization, while others struggle. Let us help you figure out what is getting you off task and get started on changing bad habits. Quick Bites is free and open to the public.

Aug. 23 & 24

The Emily Jones Public Library in Como will be hosting a weekend honoring the history of Hill Country Music in Panola County. On Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. filmmaker/photographer Michael Ford will talk about his new book, North Mississippi Homeplace. There will also be music from The Como Mamas, Mark “Mule Man” Massey, and Andrea Staten. On Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. there will be a screening of Homeplace, Michael Ford’s documentary, filmed in North Mississippi in the 1970s. A Q&A with Ford will follow. Refreshments, including a popcorn bar, will be included. For more information call 526-5283.

Aug. 26

The Friends of the Batesville Public Library  will be holding their first meeting for the 2019-20 year at the library in the small meeting room at noon. Bring a sack lunch and enjoy the meeting.

Aug. 30-31

Sept. 28

The 11th annual Sardis Classic Open Car Show sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Mississippi Delta Street Rods will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  There is a $20 entry and awards will be given at 3 p.m. Open to all makes of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. Celebrate Recovery With Jesus will meet each Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at Victory Independent Baptist Church on Hwy. 51S, two-and-a-half miles south of Batesville on the right. Bring all your hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Call 209-7773 for more information.

The South Panola Class of 1979 is planning its 40th year reunion

for Oct. 19. Contact 934-7281, 934-1272, or 703-0171 for more information or to help in the planning. All persons with connections to this class are urged to call. The reunion date is the day after the South Panola High School homecoming game in the fall.

The Panola County Election Commissioners meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Courthouse at 2 p.m.

The American Legion meets the third Tuesday of every month at the VFW at 5:30 p.m.

The Panola County Humane Society meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Batesville Public Library at 5:30 p.m.

Panola County Cancer Relief Organization meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Public Library at 6 p.m.

Al-Anon Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at Oxford University United Methodist Church, 424 S. Tenth St., Oxford. Take the Tyler St. entrance.

Wednesdays

Thursdays

Batesville VFW Post 4968 and Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of every month at the VFW building at 6 p.m.

The Como Farmers Market will be held each Thursday at the end of Main St. in Como from 3 to 7 p.m. More vendors are needed. Contact the Como Town Hall at 526-5106 for more information.

Saturdays

Every third Saturday of the month, the Batesville Lions Club will have Karaoke Night starting at 6 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club building off Tiger Drive.
