Sardis Municipal Court convened Thursday, June 6.
Judge Rhea Tannehill heard from married couple Jbreta and Eric Remain Corley, 10946 Curtis Road, Batesville, on domestic violence charges. They both pleased guilty and were fined $326.25 each. Tannehill sentenced them both to 10 days in jail and suspended the sentence.
Michael Gann, 11 Ed Mitchell Drive, Enid, appeared in court for his preliminary hearing for felony attempted kidnapping and domestic violence. He was represented by Kirk Willingham. Nina Ragon was not in court to tell her side of the story so officers Bobby West and Hunter Applewhite testified to what Ragon and Gann told them in the police report.
Ragon, 209 Myrtle St., Enid and Gann had a previous relationship, West said. Ragon told West that Gann attempted to pull a weapon on her and her boyfriend. They ran out of the house and Gann chased them. After a struggle ensued, Gann tried to pull her in the car and she scratched his neck. Gann then allegedly took the landlord’s car and left when he heard police sirens. Mr. Perkins, the boyfriend, told West that Gann made numerous threats to kill her. She was afraid for her life.
Willingham asked about the damage to the landlord’s car. West said she took a brick and threw it through the window. The testimony was questionable to Willingham who asked if Ragon was afraid of Gann, why did she get close enough for him to pull her in the car.
Perkins did not try to help her out of fear, he told West.
Applewhite took the report from Gann and said Gann told him that the landlord, Mr. Gerard, called him and told him Ragon and Perkins were being evicted. Gerard asked if Gann wanted to be there when they left and Gann said yes. Gerard picked up Gann and Gann hid in the laundry room. Gann told Applewhite he was concerned about Ragon who makes bad decisions. West was told by Gann that Ragon ran up to the car after he ran from the laundry room and threw the brick through the passenger window and never touched her.
Since Ragon, Perkins and Gerard were not in court to testify, the attempted kidnapping charges were dismissed. “I find no probable cause for this charge,” Tannehill said.
