Local schools are closed all week for the Thanksgiving holidays while government offices will join in for the Thanksgiving holiday beginning Thursday with municipal, county and state workers receiving both Thursday (Nov. 23) and Friday (Nov. 24) holidays.
Looking for a booming business are local retailers, many of whom have purchased advertisements or placed inserts into today’s publication for Black Friday. Banks will also be open on Friday.
Panola County Solid Waste Director Jennifer Jackson has asked residents to put out garbage cans a day early since collection trucks are doubling up on their schedules this week getting all routes picked up prior to Thursday’s holiday.
An advertisement in the November 14 edition stated, “Monday and Tuesday pickups put cans out Monday. Wednesday pickups put cans out on Tuesday and Thursday pickups pickups put cans out on Wednesday.”
Most Federal employees including postal workers will receive the one day holiday while Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant has declared both Thursday and Friday holidays for the state, with Panola County and its municipalities following suit.
