Como and Pope mayors reelected in voting Tuesday

In Tuesday’s General Election, Como incumbents faired well with the exception of Ward 2 Alderman Rachel Powell who was defeated by challenger Melvin Crockett who received 118 votes to Powell’s 65.
Mayor Everette Hill retained his position with 339 votes while opposing candidates Mark Lipscomb and Michael Sumner received 101 and 115, respectively.
Alderman At Large John Walton received 296 votes with challenger james Jones receiving 243.
All of Como’s successful candidates rans as independent candidates although party affiliation was not listed on the general election ballot.
In Ward I, Tonia Heard was reelected receiving 60 votes to Anetia Scott’s 12. Ward 3 incumbent Ruby Higgenbottom received 88 votes to challenger James Norman’s 25 and Teresa Dishmon was unopposed in Ward 4.
In the town of Crowder in a tight race for mayor,Tommy Dorris has apparently unseated incumbent mayor Stethan Stanton with Dorris receiving 108 votes to Stanton’s 104 according to town officials.
Pope Mayor Jamie Howell easily won reelection receiving 42 votes to challenger Matt Hill’s 9. Other town officials elected were unopposed in the general election and include Michael Boyette, Jessie Flowers, Don Jenkins, Justin Pope and De Ann Rikard.
