Lady Tigers take out Tupelo 6-4

Taylor Utz used her power drive to single three of four times at bat against Tupelo Tuesday night. Tupelo got a hint her fourth at bat and gave her an intentional walk.
Utz hit a line drive down left, a line drive up the center and one to the right to be the second leading hitter for the Lady Tigers in the 6-4 district opening win.
Mallory Myers led at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and one RBI.
Both teams put up three-run innings to tie the score 3-3 going into the bottom of the fourth. South Panola scored its three runs in bottom of the second while Tupelo’s came in the fourth.
In bottom of the second, Utz singled and Sydney Morgan was hit by the pitch to get on base. Morgan Parker walked to load the bases. Utz was out at the plate on Madison Morgan’s fielder’s choice.
With two outs, Nautica Edwards singled, driving home Sydney Morgan. Myers’ single RBI drove home Parker and Chloe Morgan’s single RBI drove home Madison Morgan for the 3-0 lead.
The score was tied at three for just a little while until Myers doubled and then scored when Ali Cummins grounded out to third in bottom of the fourth.
Tupelo answered in top of the fifth on a single RBI to tie the game at four.
In bottom of the fifth, Utz singled. Tra’Meisha Toliver came in as pinch runner and scored on Khalena Hentz’s single RBI.
Myers scored an insurance run in top of the sixth. She doubled to get on base and then scored when Cummins reached first on an error.
Kaitlyn Tidwell pitched the complete game in seven innings and got the win. She allowed seven hits and two walks.
The Jr. Varsity Lady Tigers lost to Tupelo 7-0.
Rebekah Cook pitched 1.1 innings and Tyler Hamby relieved her in bottom of the second.
The Lady Tigers will honor seniors tonight in the district doubleheader against Columbus. The Strikeout For Cancer sponsors will also be honored again. Games are at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
