A 46-year-old female who pleaded guilty to sexual acts with a male between ages of 14 and 16 will be sentenced January 26 following her guilty plea before Circuit Judge Jimmy McClure on Tuesday.
Susan Borden Manning pled guilty to a three-count indictment that charged her with sexual intercourse, sexual battery and gratification of lust with the teenager. The activity occurred between January 18 and 22, 2016.
Manning, with attorney David Walker, appeared before Judge McClure during a plea day in Panola County Circuit Court in Batesville.
Following a guilty plea in Federal Court for being a felon in possession of a firearm, a state indictment against Mandarious Laquan Armstead, 24, for assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm was remanded to the files. The two-count state indictment from the Panola County Grand Jury alleged that Armstead had attempted to shoot Victor Ellis with a rifle on May 25, 2016.
Judge McClure ordered a continuance in the capital murder trial of James Thomas Barefoot after assistant District Attorney Jay Hale and Barefoot’s attorney, Steven Farese, requested more time for discovery.
The judge set the trial date for March 20.
Barefoot was indicted for conspiracy to kidnap Vicki Barefoot Holland, breaking into her home with the intention of kidnapping, and for the murder of his wife, Jennifer Barefoot, in a bizarre shooting at Pope on August 8. Barefoot’s attorney withdrew a motion to set reasonable bond after his defendant’s bail for a Tallahatchie County charge was revoked.
