Sheriff’s Report: Mother told child custody is civil matter

Panola County Deputy Britton Crawford reported seeing a wanted person at a residence on Fowler Road Tuesday, November 22.
According to the report, the suspect fled on foot prior to Investigator Terry Smith’s arrival.
Investigator Smith made contact with the homeowner and her daughter who is on probation.
According to the report, Investigator Smith notified the daughter’s probation officer of the incident.
The probation officer transported the daughter to the jail for a drug test and to speak with her about guns in the house.
According to the report, the homeowner signed a consent form allowing officers to search the home for the suspect and officers located two guns at the residence.
“The suspect currently has an indictment for drugs and we are attempting to locate him and serve the indictment,” said Investigator Smith.
Earlier in the week Lieutenant Chuck Tucker responded to a store on Highway 51 Sunday, November 20. A window to the store was broken.
Lieutenant Tucker spoke with a store clerk who stated he arrived at the store and noticed the front window was busted out.
There is a steel cover over the window and it appears no one tried to enter the store.
According to the report, the clerk is going to have the owner review video cameras to see if the suspect could be identified.
November 17
• Deputy Steven Moore responded to Fowler Road in reference to a child custody dispute.
Upon arrival Deputy Moore spoke with the child’s mother who stated the father picked their child up from school on Tuesday.
According to the report, the mother agreed to allow the child to stay with the father for a few days.
On Thursday, November 17, the mother received a call from the child’s school stating the child had not been present for the last two days.
The mother stated she told the father she was coming to pick up the child, but upon arriving at the father’s residence she noticed the driveway gate was locked and all of the lights in the home were off.
The mother reported to Deputy Moore the father nor his spouse were answering the phone.
The mother provided paperwork stating she has full custody of the child and stated the father is $11,000 behind in child support, according to the report.
Deputy Moore advised the mother this was a civil matter and needed to be taken to court.
• Herron Street, Courtland resident reported to Deputy Maurice Market she received garnishment papers from the Department of Education stating they were garnishing her for $6,000 plus tuition for Argosy University.
According to the report, the resident stated she was only a student for one semester and she withdrew in November of 2013.
The resident stated the school renewed her loan and authorized payment without her consent.
November 18
• Deputy Trip Williams spoke to a South Pocahontas Street, Sardis resident who stated an individual came to her residence asking for money.
The resident stated she asked the individual what she was talking about to which the individual responded with cursing. The individual then assaulted the resident by hitting her in the face, according to the report.
• Coles Point Road resident reported some items stolen from his weekend home on Coles Point Road.
According to the report, $3,000 worth of speakers and amps were taken out of the resident’s 2013 Malibu Axis Ski boat and a $400 Craftsman drill and saw set and a $200 Craftsman tool box were taken from inside the residence.
According to the report, there were no signs of forced entry leading the resident to believe someone used the outside spare key to gain entry to the house.
• Eureka Road, Courtland resident reported to Deputy Maurice Market someone broke into her residence and stole $3,000 worth of guns. Investigator Jimmy Shannon was notified of the incident.
• John Branch Road resident reported to Deputy Darryl House someone stole two toolboxes from his property.
According to the report, the resident stated an individual at Terza One Stop told him a guy came by trying to sell him the tool box and stated he was driving a gold truck.
• Liberty Hill Road, Courtland resident reported to Lieutenant Tucker she and her boyfriend broke up and she told him they had to move out because she sold the residence.
According to the report, the resident stated her ex-boyfriend took the appliances with him when he moved out.
The resident stated the appliances were supposed to stay at the residence.
November 21
• Deputy George Renfroe responded to Fowler Road where a mother reported the child’s father has the child and will not give him back.
According to the report, after Deputy Renfroe spoke with both parties an agreement was made and the child was turned over to the mother.
November 22
• Deputy Moore responded to McNeely Road in reference to a fight in progress.
According to the report, the victim stated his younger brother assaulted him by striking him in the face and threw bricks and beer bottles at his work van causing damage.
The victim stated his younger brother also assaulted a cousin by hitting him from behind and kicking him while he was on the ground.
Deputy Moore along with the help of Deputy Emily Griffin and Deputy Maurice Market left the scene to look for the suspect who left on foot, according to the report.
All units attempted to locate the suspect but were unsuccessful. The victim advised he wanted to file charges.
• Bill Wallace Road, Sardis resident reported to Investigator Danny Beavers she was wearing a bracelet and ring when she went to sleep.
According to the report, the resident stated she noticed the next day the jewelry was no longer on her arm and finger.
