Batesville Municipal Judge Judge Bill McKenzie temporarily gave one defendant the benefit of the doubt Wednesday when he allowed the man to leave the courtroom to retrieve his automobile insurance card.
Deshaun S. Lockwood, 149 Victory, Courtland, entered guilty pleas to possession of marijuana in a vehicle, no driver’s license, no proof of insurance and expired tag, but told the judge he had since acquired insurance and could get the paperwork to prove it.
“Where is it?” the judge asked.
“It’s in my car in the shop,” he answered.
“What shop?” the judge asked.
“Dunlap and Kyle,” he answered.
“Well, go get it,” the judge replied.
Lockwood slowly left the courtroom and never returned. He was fined $1,821.
