ND closes season in 48-21 loss to Adams County

By Will Dickins
North Delta’s football season came to an end Friday night on a 48-21 loss to the Adams County Christian School Rebels.
On a day that started with a bus swap in Jackson, the North Delta Green Wave showed up to the stadium having to win to stay alive.  One more loss meant that the season was over, and the seniors would move past Green Wave football forever.
Sadly, North Delta did not have enough to counter the Rebels.  Adams County jumped to a demanding 21-0 lead in the first quarter on three runs over 10 yards. One of them was for 52 yards.  North Delta showed resilience in the beginning of the next quarter by orchestrating a 17-play drive that took six minutes off of the clock and ended with a score.
Will Kidder capped it with a 15 yard strike to Luke Daniels who was streaking down the middle of the field with no defenders around him.
With the score at 21-7, North Delta tried to swing the momentum even more in their favor with an onside kick.  The ball bounced off of an Adams County player and into the arms of North Delta, but the play was called back because of a referee’s inadvertent whistle.
The Green Wave had to rekick the ball.  The Rebels recovered and never looked back. What was supposed to be the turning point for North Delta ended up being their downfall.
Adams County scored two more unanswered touchdowns to make it 35-7 at the half. The second half did not start any better with North Delta punting the ball on the opening drive. To make matters worst, Adams County returned it 60 yards for the score. With it being 42-7, the end was near.
On the next drive, North Delta scored again on a Jimmy Manues run from 2 yards out.  North Delta would close out the night with one more score in the fourth quarter. Kidder found Daniels again for a 14-yard score in the corner of the end zone.  Adams County scored one more time with time expiring to make the final score 48-21.
On a first half of what ifs and so close’s, North Delta fell short.  If the onside kick was not called back or if one of the deep passes found their mark, they may have been looking at a closer game. Overall, Adams County scored a multitude of points with an offense full of firepower.
It was a hard fought season for the Green Wave. This year was a season with a team fighting through adversity from the very beginning. The team had a brand of resiliency that cannot be coached, but sometimes more was needed.
When it seemed like all hope was lost, North Delta would find a way. From going hand in hand with Magnolia Heights in a rivalry game to catching a last second Hail Mary to putting team in the playoffs, the players were winners even in statistical losses.  In the grand scheme of things, this season was one to remember and one they will never forget.
