The Batesville Exchange Club’s Fall Pancake Breakfast Saturday morning will kick off a busy October for Panola County.
The pancake breakfast can also help fuel the start of a busy Saturday that includes the Seventh Annual Showoff on the Square Open Car Show with vehicles both vintage and outrageous.
The 7 to 10 a.m. breakfast at the Batesville Intermediate School Cafeteria helps fund the Exchange Club’s child abuse prevention education in addition to many other worthy local causes including the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Mississippi in Batesville.
The pancake breakfast menu includes — pancakes, of course, with all the trimmings — butter, syrup (regular and sugar free), bacon, sausage and also the specialty signature condiment of the Batesville Exchange Club: peanut butter, smooth, crunchy or both. Servings are generous.
Tickets available from any Exchange member for a minimum $5 donation. They can also be purchased at First Security Bank or at The Panolian.
Car show
On Saturday Batesville’s Square will be filled with the shiniest, sportiest and fanciest cars, trucks and motorcycles from all over this area as the town hosts its seventh annual Showoff on the Square open car show.
Vehicles of all makes and models, from antique to brand new, are eligible. There is a $20 entry. Entrants can register beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The Mississippi Delta Street Rods and the City of Batesville are sponsoring the show. There will be concessions, door prizes, and $2,000 in cash prizes. Trophies, 120 of them, will be presented at 3 p.m. Planners are expecting more than 200 entries.
Proceeds raised by the Delta Street Rods will go to various charities they support, including the Baptist Children’s Village.
Admission is free.

Crafts fair
Coinciding with the car show is an arts and crafts fair sponsored by Merea Ministry, which operates the local Christian Women’s Job Corps. The fair will be at Batesville First Baptist Church’s Family Life Center, within walking distance of the Square. Vendors will offer handmade jewelry, woven and knitted work, paintings, pottery, woodwork, holiday gifts and more. There will be a silent auction, music by John Jordan, and food, too. Hours of the fair are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
