Man gets 36 days in fondling conviction

By John Howell
Jeremy Delain Mayer, 32, of Byhalia pled guilty Monday, just as he was about to go on trial for statutory rape and gratification of lust or fondling.
Mayer pled guilty to the latter charge of fondling and was sentenced to 36 days incarceration with the Mississippi Department of Correction and $600 in fine and victim compensation. The statutory rape count was remanded to the files.
Mayer’s plea came just after jury selection had been completed, a representative of Panola County Circuit Clerk Melissa Meek-Phelps’ office said.
Mayer was represented by attorney Pat Stegall of Memphis. Assistant District Attorney Jay Hale represented the state.
After serving the 36 days, he will be placed on 10 years of non-reporting, post-release supervision.
Probation conditions include an order that Mayer have no direct or indirect contact with the victim.
No date was set for the trial of John David Hollingsworth, continued from September, 2015. Hollingsworth was indicted for four counts of fondling alleged to have occurred in December, 2013.
