Defendant denied hiding gun after shots fired, referred to grand jury

A preliminary hearing in Wednesday’s session of Batesville Municipal Court resulted in one man bound over to the grand jury, and two others hiring attorneys to defend them on charges  filed following a shooting incident at the Patton Lane Park May 25.

Judge Bill McKenzie found probable cause to refer Donteraus D. Mister, 106 Normandy, Batesville, to the grand jury on  an accessory-after-the-fact charge related to the shooting. He is charged with aiding and assisting Victor Ellis, 409-A Armstrong, Batesville, by hiding a gun for Ellis after shots were fired in the Patton Lane and Leonard Street Apartments area. 

Detective Justin Maples told the judge the Batesville Police Department received calls after were shots fired.

Maples told the judge security footage showed Ellis handing the gun to Mister who ran and hid the gun.

“We was at the park and Skull (Mondarius Armstead) was just shooting in the air,” Mister testified.

“I took the gun after Victor handed it to me,” he said.

“Who has the gun now? Where is it? Did it just evaporate?” McKenzie asked.

“When I was running it fell and someone else was supposed to get it,” he replied.

Mondarius “Skull” Armstead, 4238 Curtis Rd., Batesville, involved in the same incident, was charged with attempted aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in city limits. Armstead’s bond is $50,000. The case is continued while he seeks legal counsel.

Victor Ellis, 409-A Armstrong, Batesville, is charged in the same incident for attempted aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in city limits. His case is also continued as he seeks an attorney. He is held on a $50,000 bond.

The judge continued the case of Derek Carlisle, 211 Garson St., Batesville, charged with  burglary, petit larceny, possession of marijuana in a vehicle and no driver’s license. He is incarcerated in Pulaski County Jail in Arkansas. 

Antonio L. Gleaton, 181 Sherwood, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for felony possession of a controlled substance and simple possession of controlled substance.

Jecoleman Street, 100 Hobbs, Batesville, had a case continued until July 13 after family requested more time to obtain counsel.

Street’s bond remains $1,000,000 for possession of controlled substance, sale of controlled substance and firearm enhancement penalty. 

Sereginald L. Smith, 102 Hoskins Rd., Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for burglary and petit larceny. 

Leadra Y. Hubbard, 206 Bright St., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to simple assault with mace. A trial was set for July 13.

Shekaydra K. Morris, 321-B Ridge Rd., Courtland, entered a guilty plea to simple assault with mace in a May 22 incident at Walmart.  Morris was fined $328.

Venton D. Young Jr., 203 Claude St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to simple possession of marijuana. He was fined $443.

Courtney Strong, 206 Tubbs, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to disorderly conduct-failure to comply. A trial was set for July 13.

Alexandria C. Powell, 206 Calvary, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to simple assault. A trial was set for July 13.

Willie B. Ellis, 109 Everette St., Batesville, paid $417 in full prior to court for trespassing. 

Jeffery Gray, 1239 Smith St. East, Springfield, Mo., paid fines of $348 in full for petit larceny prior to court.

Tyler M. Smith, 1267 Vintage Lane, Nixa, Mo., paid fines of $348 in full prior to court for petit larceny. 

Lacy A. Hollins, 132 Oakleigh Dr., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to shoplifting merchandise worth $58.22 from Walmart. A trial was set for July 13.

Elmer G. McGee, 112 Ozbirn, Batesville, had a case for DUI-refusal, open container and improper equipment continued. 

Joey H. Hill, 444 LeMaster Rd., Sardis, entered a guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault. He was fined $417.

Jakeysha Flowers, 4072 Curtis Rd., Batesville, was told to have her old fines of $1,146 paid in full within 30 days or serve 90 days in jail.

Phylica Ann Butler, 113 Debowen Wilson, Batesville, was fined $168 for speeding. 

Bobby Thomas, 1695 Springport Rd., Sardis, had a simple assault case dismissed after the affiant, Kenyatta Smith, failed to appear to prosecute.

Crissy Flowers, 216 Meadowbrook, Greenwood, was found guilty in her absence of shoplifting from Walmart after a short trial and testimony from Det. Maples.
