Louis Armstrong

CHICAGO––Louis Armstrong, 74, formerly of Oakland, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Roseland Community Hospital in Chicago.
Services were held Saturday at Parrish Grove M.B. Church in Oakland. Pastor Percy McCord officiated. Burial was in Parrish Grove Church Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Armstrong, born June 3, 1941, in Oakland, to the late Hugh Armstrong and Lula Bradford, was a fork lift driver.

BATESVILLE––James “Bus” Ballentine, 86, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Merit Health in Batesville. Services were held Saturday at Cooley’s Mortuary. Elder James Earl Richardson officiated. Burial was in James and Louise Ballentine Cemetery in Sardis.
Ballentine, born Aug. 9, 1929, in Sardis, to the late Archie Ballentine and Josephine Draper, was a retired machine operator for Panola County and a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis.
Survivors include: his wife, Maggie Louise Ballentine of Sardis; daughters, Mosetta Henderson and Edith Lipsey, both of Sardis and Linda Faye Maybre of Chicago, Bertha Ballentine of Chicago; three sons, James Ballentine, Allen Ballentine, Ray Ballentine, all of Sardis; one sister, Josephine Fondren of Sardis; two brothers, Archie Lee Ballentine of Iowa and Cecil Ford of Batesville; 39 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Percy Johnson

BATESVILLE––Percy Johnson, 81, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Services were held Sunday at Cooley’s Mortuary. Pastor Rubert Morgan officiated. Burial was in Batesville Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Johnson, born April 22, 1935, in Batesville, to the late Ezekiel Johnson and Flora Henderson Johnson, was a farmer and served in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include: two sisters, Bertha Irby of Batesville and Minnie J. Bryant of Milwaukee and one brother, Josepha Johnson of Milwaukee.
