Cameron Burns worked his way out of a bases loaded one-out jam in the bottom of the sixth inning to help preserve a 4-3 A’s victory over the Royals Tuesday in American Legion play.
The Royals (2-5) loaded the sacks on an error and two walks but could not get the tying run in as Burns retired the final batter on a groundout as the first place A’s improve to 6-1 on the season.
Both teams put up two runs each after one inning of play before the Royals took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third on Dalton Barefoot’s triple that  scored Keyshun Lantern from first.
The A’s responded with two runs in the fifth on a pair of hits and one error as Jay Potts and Max Dunlap each singled.
Will Gillintine and Potts had two singles followed by Forrest Pierce with a single to pace the A’s. Brandon Phelps registered two singles for the Royals while Ryan McCormack provided a single.
In the first game of the day, the Yankees blew open a 2-2 contest  with 10 runs over the final three innings to ease past the Red Sox 12-2.
Drake Barton and Wyatt Hodges provided two singles each for the Yankees (4-3). Caleb West, Payton Cook, Mason Lawton and Caleb White all singled in the winning effort.
Lee Adcock garnered two singles for the Red Sox (2-5) while Hunter Hudson and Nathan Walls also provided singles.
