Bond reduced for man charged with murder

A man who was being held on a 2 million dollar bond at the Panola County Jail appeared in Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday  for an initial appearance for murder and aggravated assault charges.
Judge Jay Westfaul explained, “Today is not the day of your trial. All I can do is set bond. You have the right to stay silent and the right to have an appointed lawyer.”
Eric Love, 6449 Whispering CT, Memphis, Tenn., had his bond $300,000 reduced  to $250,000 and was appointed David Walker for legal representation for murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
Love is charged for the December 19 murder of his brother and also faces two aggravated assault charges for injuries to other bystanders.
David Walker was appointed and he was referred to the Grand Jury.
Joshua M. Cannon, 13220 Ballentine Rd., Batesville, returned to court after refusing to sign his waiver again.
Cannon was appointed David Walker for legal representation and his bond remains $7,500.
Thomas Gant Jr., 219 Heafner Rd., Sardis, entered a guilty plea to possession of paraphernalia. He was fined $383.
Demarkes Battle, 211 MLK, Batesville, paid his fines of $443 in full prior to court for possession of marijuana.
Kevin A. Winfield, 205 Vaughn St., Batesville, failed to appear to answer charges for disorderly conduct-failure to comply, loud music and contempt of court. Alright Bonding was notified.
Trenita Winfield, 3339 Benson Rd., Pope, entered a not guilty plea to disorderly conduct-failure to comply. A trial was set for January 27.
The judge asked, “Do you know Kevin Winfield?”
“Yes,” she replied.
“Can you please get him to court so we don’t have to issue a warrant? Something small can errupt into something bigger,” the judge replied.
Ricky L. Henderson, 125 Jackson St., Batesville, paid $417 in full prior to court for trespassing charges. He also had old fines of $1,251 due since July 2015.
A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was charged with contempt of court for failure to follow orders of the court.
Henderson had six months suspended jail sentence to serve and standing order by the court to not return to any of the Skyview Apartments for any reason.
Lesidrick M. Carter, 205 Patton Lane, Batesville, had a domestic violence-simple assault charge dismissed after the affiant, Shakeivious Johnson requested the charges be dismissed.
Tommy Lee Wright, 139-A Todd Rd., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault. A trial was set for January 20 and a no contact order was issued.
Jason Lee Grider, 502 CR 428, Oakland, entered a guilty plea to DUI-second (refusal), no driver’s license, careless driving and no proof of insurance. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail and fined $2,352.
Rita Sandoval, 1477 JQ West, Como, was reluctant to enter a guilty plea to stealing a pen from Walmart.
“I’m looking at NCIC and you have criminal charges in Arkansas and charges for prostitution and other crimes, now you’re in Batesville? Do you live here? Why are you here?” the judge asked.  
“Yes I live in Como,” she answered.
 “I wasn’t trying to steal. I took the pen out of the package and put it in my pocket,” she admitted.
She was fined $1,146.
Rachael Lee Hobson, 181 Henry Heafner Rd., Sardis, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting baby clothes and beauty supplies from Walmart. She was fined $1,146.
Karen M. Harper, 2768 Springport Rd., Batesville, paid her fines of $1,146 in full prior to court for shoplifting from Walmart.
Bridget Moore, 201 Gordon Dr., Batesville, was found guilty of shoplifting a pair of pants from Begin Again worth $5.35. She was fined $1,146.
Derrck D. Turner, 686-A Herron Rd., Courtland, failed to appear to answer contempt of court-old fines of $549.25 due since September 2013. Al Williams Bonding was notified.
Ronnie Robinson, 105 Williams St., Batesville, was found guilty of public drunk and fined $225.
Joey A. Wells, 43 CR 173, Oxford, entered a not guilty plea to possession of marijuana in a vehicle, no proof of insurance and improper equipment. A trial was set for January 27.
