South Panola has had a long list of Division 1 players and just added a new member to the list. Former South Panola and Northeast standout Brady Smith signed with Alcorn State University on Wednesday to extend his career to the next level.
“My experience at Northeast was everything I expected it to be by me getting a good education, getting to meet new people and playing the great sport of football,” Smith said “Now I get the opportunity to play at the next level.”
Smith entered the 2015 season as one of the top returning sophomores and cornerbacks in the MACJC. Smith had an outstanding season even after being forced to move down to the cornerback spot after playing full time safety last season. Smith finished his career as a Tiger with 104 total tackles, four pass deflections, two interceptions and a touchdown.
“It’s all a blessing. Staying humble and being focused helped me to stay true to what I went there for” Smith added, “I showed that I was a hybrid player and not just singular. Anyway I can help a team, I am willing to do that.”
Smith was a sought out talent as he was looked at by many schools. Besides Alcorn he had offers from Murray St., West Florida and many more.
“After visiting campus, me and the coaches clicked instantly and after praying about it God led me to Alcorn,” Smith said.
Smith has goals of being the greatest at Alcorn and to get his degree but like all athletes, Smith dreams of being a pro one day.
“I want to be successful in these two years and I want to be the best on and off the field,” Smith added “My biggest dream is to be in the NFL after my job at Alcorn is finished.”
Smith will be attending Alcorn in January and will take the field as a Brave in the 2016 season.
