The North Delta softball team ended their pre-season portion of their schedule by hosting a day long tournament Saturday, losing one game before salvaging a tie in the final game.
After rain showers postponed games Friday afternoon, North Delta (1-3-1) lost to Magnolia Heights before the junior varsity squad eased past West Memphis 13-1.
The Lady Green Wave closed out the tournament with a 1-1 tie with Tri- County in four innings. North Delta plated its lone run in the bottom of the first as leadoff hitter Janie Brasell was hit by a pitch.
Myles Durham followed with a sacrifice bunt that advanced Brasell to second but a errant throw by Tri- County’s first baseman sailed into left field that allowed Brasell to score. The Lady Wave looked to add to its lead in the second by putting runners on the corners with two outs only to have a flyout end the inning.
Tri-County, the reigning AA State champions, evened the score at 1-1 in the third with two singles and a throwing error. Each team recorded two hits each as Haley Lamm led North Delta with two singles.
Sarah Johnson struck out five  in three innings of work before giving way to Brasell who retired all three batters she faced in the fourth. Brasell also delivered a home run in the loss to Magnolia Heights.
North Delta opened up district play last night by hosting Indianola before visiting Delta Academy Friday at 4 p.m.
