Panola County Emergency Management Agency will host a Sky Warning Weather Spotter Training session open to the public Thursday, February 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Center (old national guard building) in Sardis.
Taught by the National Weather Service out of Memphis, the class will last approximately two hours and consist of instruction in cloud formations, barometric pressure and other things to watch for during instances of extreme weather conditions.
Panola County’s Emergency Management Director Daniel Cole said area first responders are encouraged to attend but also noted previous classes have included Boy Scouts and other interested citizens.
Cole mentioned that his agency tries to sponsor these training sessions every two or three years, noting the last one was held almost four years ago.
