Mobile food pantry returning to Como

Once again, 12 North Panola area churches are bringing a truckload of food from the Mid-South Food Bank in Memphis to Cistern Hill Church in Como, to serve needy families.

The food is set to arrive on Tuesday, August 19. Those who have been through pre-screening and received vouchers may pick up food from 1-3 p.m. at Cistern Hill.

Pre-screening sessions will take place today at Sardis United Methodist Church from 1-6 pm., and on Thursday at Cistern Hill from 2-6 p.m. There will be no registration the day of the event.

Families in the following zip codes are eligible: 38619, 38666, 38621, 38655. Residents who qualify for SNAP benefits, SSI, home energy assistance, public housing and TANF are eligible.

The mobile food pantry distribution is the fourth to be sponsored this year by the North Panola Church Collaborative, a group of a dozen churches in northern Panola County who raise about $1,600 for each distribution.

The churches in the Collaborative are: Sardis United Methodist, Cistern Hill, Como United Methodist, Como Chapel, Como Baptist, Hammond Hill Baptist, Sardis Baptist, Holy Innocents Episcopal, Wesley Chapel, Walton Chapel, Como Church of Christ, and Cherry Street Baptist Church.
