Drug charge sends man to grand jury

Judge Bill McKenzie referred a defendant to the grand jury during Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday.

James J. Lee, 216 West St., Batesville, was referred to Circuit Court for possession of controlled substance with intent and felony possession of controlled substance.

MDOC also has a  hold.

John Daugherty, 113 Dees, Robstown, Texas, failed to appear to answer a public drunk charge.

Devonta Pride, 6317 Hwy. 6 West, Batesville, had a simple assault case dismissed after the affiant Devin Tribble failed to appear to prosecute.

Jennie Spencer, 335 Shamrock, Batesville, had a simple assault case dismissed after the affiant, Gabriella Floyd failed to appear to prosecute.

Oshagus Joiner, 441 Mt. Olive Rd., Tillatoba, entered a not guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault. A trial was set for November 13.

Reginald Taylor, 357 Greg Taylor Rd., Courtland, entered a guilty plea to two counts of shoplifting, resisting arrest and public drunk. He was fined $2,085 with credit for the time served while awaiting trial.

Dallas Kendall, 99 Northwood Rd., Batesville, entered guilty pleas to shoplifting (second offense) and possession of paraphernalia. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $1,499.

Dean Pettit, 99 Northwood Rd., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting. He was fined $1,131.

Latoya Lewis, 1034 Sutton Circle, Tunica, failed to appear to answer contempt of court old fines of $1,063 that have been due since August 2011.

A warrant was issued for her arrest.

A case was dismissed for Lashunda McMiller, 98 Will Stewart Rd., Batesville, after affiant Lawanda Henderson failed to appear to prosecute.

Portia Henderson, 126 Patterson St., Batesville, was found guilty of simple assault against Latasha Thomas and was fined $313.

Cory L. Flowers, 3803 Seven Rd., Batesville, was found guilty in his absence for possession of marijuana in a moving vehicle, open container, driving while license suspended and running a stop sign. 

He also had old fines of $781.25 that have been due since April 2011. 

His total fines were $2,323.25

Norman Riggs, 8222 Paula Kay Place, Shreveport, entered a guilty plea to domestic violence-simple, simple possession of controlled substance and disorderly conduct-failure to comply. He was fined $1,461.

After a trial James R. Cole, 145 Lombardy Rd., Drew, was found not guilty of simple assault against Stephen Red. 

Tickets

Ranoldo Cox, 1926 Shiloh Rd., Courtland, had a ticket dismissed after he provided proof he had his headlight fixed.

Torney A. Soloman, 3285 Squirrel Lake Rd., Sledge, was given a lower fine of $205 for no proof of insurance after providing proof insurance was  purchased after the ticket was issued.

Quanisha S. Dickens, 1278 Shiloh Rd., Courtland, was given a lower fine of $205 for no proof of insurance.
