Gladys C. Burkes

MORTON–    Gladys C. Burkes, 67, formerly of Batesville, died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at her residence. 

Visitation will be at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, Friday, September 27, 2013 from 10:00 am until 1:50 p.m. and funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel, with burial following in Morton Memorial Gardens.  Wolf Funeral Services in Morton has charge.

Mrs. Burkes had lived in Morton for the past 40 years, moving from Batesville. She was a member of Line Creek Baptist Church in Morton.  She loved flower gardening and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis L. Burkes, Sr. in 1992; and her parents, John Paul and Nellie Crosswhite.

She is survived by one daughter Becky Lockert of Morton; one son, Lamar Burkes of Morton; two sisters, Judy Crosswhite and Edna Raymond both of Batesville; three brothers, Roger Crosswhite, Buck Crosswhite, and Billy Wayne Green all of Batesville; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Bill Elliott

Bill Elliott died Sunday, September 22, 2013.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Dickins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Tuesday 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eureka Cemetery.

Dorothy Mae “Dot” Gregory

CRENSHAW– Dorothy Mae (Dot) Gregory, 69, died Friday, September 20, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services were held Sunday  at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kevin Robinson officiating. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery near Crenshaw. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Gregory, born October 3, 1943 in Sledge, to the late Henry and Sadie Mae Matthews Barlow, was a member of Sledge Baptist Church and worked for Plumbley Rubber Company for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Harold Gregory and one daughter, Carol Sue Anglin.

Survivors include: three daughters, Cheryl Kaye Lewellyn and Beverly Lynn Crump, both of Crenshaw and Windy Ann Peavy of Batesville; sons, Jimmy Harold Gregory, Jr of Crenshaw, Rodney Anglin of Batesville; three sisters, Bonnie Kay Bruan of Florida, Peggy Sue Wells of Senatobia and Tammy Lynn Hansen of Memphis; three brothers, Billy Ross Barlow of Sarah, Sammy Thomas Barlow of Loxahoma and Henry Lee Barlow of Tunica; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Rosie Mae Mitchell

COMO– Rosie Mae Mitchell, 68, died Sunday, September 22, 2013.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Felix Cauthen Funeral Home. Burial will be in New Independence M.B. Church in Coldwater. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors include: her husband, James I. Mitchell of Como; four daughters, Arbadella Armstrong and Katrina Shorty, both of Coldwater, Ruthie Hall and Cosandra Mays, both of Como; two sons, Earnest Hall of Coldwater and James Hall of Como; six sisters, Annie Mae Brown of Cleveland, Ohio, Joyce Ann Cole of Malden, Mo., Quanita Cole of Memphis, Earlean Cole of Coldwater, Betty Fort of Como and Lisa Cole of Sardis; ; two brothers, Willie Frank Cole of Batesville, Keath Cole of Senatobia and 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
