Sardis Board approves $1.9 million budget

Sardis Police Department will have two additional cruisers, both used 2011 Crown Victorias purchased from Missouri Highway Patrol, during a special meeting last Friday, September 13.

The board of mayor and alderman voted to accept Police Chief Chris Martin’s recommendation to purchase the used vehicles at a price of $15,450 each.

Sardis board members also voted during the special meeting to accept a $3,501.75 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) that is used to pay police officers’ overtime.

A budget of $1,909,306 was also approved and mirrors the prior year’s budget with millage to support it anticipated to stay the same according to Mayor Billy Russell and Town Clerk Mary McDowell.

Sardis had held a budget hearing a week prior to last Friday’s budget approval.

McDowell also stated that board members approved advertisement for a used backhoe for the city’s maintenance department.
