Opportunity for job hunters coming June 20
By John Howell
Employers, from Oxford’s Olin-Winchester to Batesville’s ACI Building Systems will be looking for workers at the Batesville Civic Center Thursday, June 20 during the Northwest Mississippi Area Job Fair.
Olin-Winchester and ACI will be among at least 40 employers who are expected at the Job Fair in Batesville to hire new employees. A complete listing of employers and job titles can be found at www.jobfairs.ms.gov.
“There are a lot of qualified candidates who come through this job fair,” Governor’s Job Fair Network Director Adam Todd said Friday.
The Northwest Mississippi Area Job Fair is part of the job fair network established throughout the state by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES).
Job fairs provide a one-day, central meeting places for employers seeking qualified workers and applicants looking for jobs. Last year over 900 people looking for work attended the job fair in Batesville.
Over 200 job offers were made that day and contacts made that day resulted in subsequent hiring in months that followed, Todd said.
The Batesville Civic Center is located east of I-55 near its intersection with Highway 6. The job fair will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from the employers themselves,” Todd said, referring to job fairs held to date this year across the state, “lower numbers, higher quality applicants.”
Other employers who have reserved space for the Northwest Mississippi Area Job Fair range from restaurants, fast food franchises and retail businesses to truck drivers and route salespeople.
Employers seeking workers are welcome to register “right up until the day of the job fair,” Todd said.
Employers can register online at www.jobfairs.ms.gov or by calling Todd at 601-321-6154.
