Investigation continues in child’s death

Sardis Police Chief John Deal has called in the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to assist with investigating the death of a two-year-old girl, A-niyah Thomas-Farmer, who was killed last Friday in her grandmother’s driveway in Sardis on Alcorn Street.

According to authorities, the child was run over in the driveway around 3 p.m. Authorities waved away a medical helicopter in lieu of Panola County Coroner Gracie Grant-Gulledge Friday afternoon soon after the incident.

She is the daughter of Tomeshia Thomas and Mario Farmer.

Although Deal said he believed it was an accident, the investigation continues.
