SP completes 2013 football schedule

South Panola head football coach Lance Pogue announced Thursday that he had completed the South Panola football schedule for 2013.

For the first time, in recent memory, South Panola will play a 12-game regular season. Mississippi High School Activities Association lifted the requirement of an open date for schools in 1A, 5A and 6A.

All three teams open the season at home Friday, August 23. South Panola will open the season at home against Memphis’ White Station High School Spartans, a 6A school.

North Panola welcomes Rosa Fort and North Delta welcomes Pillow Academy.

With the 12-game schedule, home and away games will be equally split. Also at home will be the Thursday, August 29 matchup with West Point, October 4 against Olive Branch, October 18 homecoming against Tupleo and end the season at home with back to back games November 1, Grenada and Thursday, November 7, Desoto Central.

After the first two games at home, South Panola will be on the road for four straight games September 6 at Meridian, September 13 at North Little Rock, Ark., September 20 at MUS and September 27 to open the district season at Horn Lake.

The other two away games include October 11 at 6A newcomer Hernando and October 25 at Southaven. All games will start at 7 p.m. as the MHSAA has lifted the requirement that games before October 1 start at 7:30 p.m.

North Panola will play an 11-game season, not including a jamboree on August 16. The Cougars have five games at home including August 30 against Byhalia, September 13 against Ripley, homecoming October 11 against M. S. Palmer and Water Valley on October 11.
North Delta has a 10-game schedule with five home games including September 6 against Strayhorn, September 20 against Bayou, October 4 against Marshall and October 18 against Winona.
