Elbert C. Sides, 80


COMO — Elbert C. Sides, 80, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at his residence.

Services were held Sunday at Como United Methodist Church. Burial was in Bethesda Cemetery in Senatobia. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.

Sides, born Aug. 29, 1932, to the late J.C. Sides Sr. and Eva Caldwell Sides, graduated from Coffeeville High School and received a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from Mississippi State University.

He was a cotton farmer, worked cattle and rode horses. He raised cattle until his death. He served on the board of directors for the Tate County Co-Op and Tate and Panola County gins.
He was honored as both the Jaycee Young Farmer of the Year for Tate County in 1960 and Outstanding Tate Farmer by Senatobia Chamber of Commerce in 1975.

He was a member of the National Cutting Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Ann Armstrong.

Survivors include: daughters Bonnie Sides of Jackson, Elizabeth Ann Waddell of Little Rock, Ark., Alice Sides McLeod of Como and Shannon Adams; brothers, Chappell Sides and Don Sides of Coffeeville and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Como United Methodist Church, 101 North Main St., Como, Miss. 38619, The American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW Ste. 800, Washington, D.C. 20004 or Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, 311 North Main St., Como, Miss. 38619.

Sally Fisher, who served as Panola County Chancery Clerk from 1988-2003, died Monday at Tri-Lakes Medical Center. Funeral services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at Batesville First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home.
