Both North Delta varsity basketball teams geared up for the upcoming District 1-AA tournament, closing out the regular season on a positive note, taking a pair of road wins over Desoto, Ark. Monday night.
In the opening game, the Lady Green Wave evened their record at 15-15 on the season with a 41-17 romp over the Thunderbirds.
Charla Shea Darby led the way with 12 points while Jordan Pullen registered 10 points. Claire Gant followed with five while Janie Brasell supplied four.
Hastings Neal followed with three points while Megan Bollinger, Julianna Morrow and Erin Snider all had two points. Ginger Stephens rounded out the scoring with one point.
The North Delta boys meanwhile completed the sweep by getting past Desoto 58-52 in the nightcap.
Four players reached double figures in scoring as the Green Wave upped their record to 10-15 overall.
Jonathan Mackey narrowly missed a triple-double as the senior paved the way with 16 points, 10 assists and seven steals. Sophomore Will Hartzell followed with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Renic Greenlee added 11 points, 10 boards and six steals. Hunt Howell finished with 10 points.
The No. 3 seeded Green Wave will face No. 2 seed and host team Indianola at 7:45 tonight in the district tournament. The No. 4 seeded Lady Wave squared off against Carroll last night.
The tournament concludes tomorrow with the girls consolation game slated for 2 p.m. followed by the boys consolation contest at 3:15. The girls championship game will be a 4:30 and the boys at 5:45.
The top four seeds in each bracket will advance to the North AA State tournament next week at Leake Academy.
