David Avant


SENATOBIA – David Avant, 57, died Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

Services will be held Saturday at noon at Independent Tyro M.B. Church in Senatobia. Burial will be in Independent Tyro M.B. Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Rodgers Funeral Home has charge.

Avant was a former construction worker.

Survivors include: his mother, Ether Jones of Senatobia; four sisters, Florence Jones and Cora Jones, both of Senatobia, Alice Jones and Vuanita McArthur, both of Memphis; five brothers, Kenya Jones and Cleveland Jones Jr., both of Senatobia, Willie Jones of Como, Jimmy Jones of Houston, Texas and Jessie Jones, of Houston, Miss.

Virginia M. Beavers


SARDIS – Virginia M. Beavers, 69, died Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services were held Thursday at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home in Sardis. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Kyle Hooper officiated. Ray-Nowell funeral Home had charge.

Beavers born Feb. 14, 1943, to the late Lois Warren Hall and Ida Mae Tipton Hall, was a homemaker and a member of Hebron Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby J. Beavers.

Survivors include: one daughter, Betty B. Johnson; one son, William D. Beavers of Sardis and two sisters, Lois Waldrip of Cordova and Juanita Richardson of Eads, Tenn.

Mattie Sue Burton Draper


SARDIS – Mattie Sue Burton Draper, 50, died Saturday, November 10, 2012.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Eddie Robinson Funeral Home. Eddie Robinson Funeral Home has charge.

Draper, born November 23, 1961, to George Burton II and Minnie Jones Burton, was a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church and worked for the University of Mississippi.
Survivors include: her husband, Ronnie Harold Draper of Sardis; one daughter, Bridget Burton Robertson of Sardis; one son, Mark Burton of Sardis and two brothers, John Henry Norwood and George Burton III, both of Sardis.

Larry Hulett Patton

COURTLAND – Larry Hulett Patton, 63, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – DeSoto in Southaven.

Services were held Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the First United Pentecostal Church in Batesville.
Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Patton born March 10, 1949, in Enid, to the late Thomas Edward Patton and Nona Aleene Ware Patton, worked as a farmer and construction worker.

Survivors include: his wife of 45 years, Wynette Smith Patton of Courtland; one daughter, Angela Patton West of Courtland; one son, Larry Ray Patton of Courtland; three sisters, Jean Beard of Pope, Shirley Clark and Nona Patton Weeks, both of Courtland; two brothers, Thomas Edwin Bonner of Water Valley and Joe Edward Patton of Fieldsdale, Va. and three grandchildren.

The family requests memorial contributions may be made to First United Pentecostal Church, 206 Pettit Street, Batesville, MS 38606 or to Panola County Cancer Relief Fund, P.O. Box 1768, Batesville, Miss.

Henry Lee Tellis


SCOBEY – Henry Lee Tellis, 54, died Saturday, November  10, 2012, at his residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Persimmon Hill M.B. Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. William Johnson will officiate. Clark Williams Funeral Home has charge.

He is survived by  his wife, Sharon Tellis; his mother, Katherine Tellis of Oakland; one step-daughter, Jakesha L. Phipps of Scobey; one son, Jatarus D. Phipps of Scobey; eight sisters, Vernell Wright and Barbara A. Petty, both of Oakland, Johnnie M. Pickens of Grenada, Ora J. Tellis of Charleston, Florence House, Elanie Leland, Nancy House and Flora Jones, all of Batesville; four brothers, Sammie L. Tellis and Robert Suggs, both of Oakland, Darnell Tellis of Charleston, Hezzie L. Tellis of Tillatoba.
