“Not us,” Howell says

At least one local resident has received a scam phone call trying to sell an ad in the “Batesville Magazine,” publisher John Howell said.

The caller told the local resident that the magazine was going to press but that an advertiser had pulled out at the last minute. The local resident could buy the space at a reduced price.

“You just need to give us your credit card number,” the caller said.

The Panolian is not presently soliciting advertisement for its fall/winter edition of Batesville, The Magazine, the publisher said. That edition is at the printer and should be available within 10 days.

“Beware of anyone who calls asking for credit card or other personal information for any reason,” Howell said.

Anyone who has received such a call is encouraged to contact the Batesville Police Department at 563-5653 and file a report, the publisher said.
