James Franklin “Jimmy” Clark


BATESVILLE – James Franklin “Jimmy” Clark, 53, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at his residence.

Services were held Monday, July 16 at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Raymond Aven and George Chunn officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Clark, born Sept. 30, 1958, in Batesville, to the late Raymond Dudley Clark and Margie Herring Clark, was a construction foreman for Panola Construction.

Survivors include: his wife, Jane Kelsay Milam Clark of Batesville; two daughters, Starre Clark Coleman and Paige Clark Caine, both of Batesville; two step-daughters, Heather Milam Barbee of Memphis and Ashley Milam Allen of Batesville; his mother, Margie Herring Clark of Batesville; three sisters, Glenda Clark Aven, Dorothy Clark Maddux and Darlene Clark Lawrence, all of Batesville; two  brothers, Donald “Donnie” Clark of Batesville and Raymond Len Clark of Pope and nine grandchildren.

Gerald L. Holt


COMO – Gerald L. Holt, 76, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Harmontown. Rev. Donny Hill will officiate. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.

Holt, born Sept. 26, 1935, in Colorado, was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver and owner of a small engine repair business in Harmontown. He was a truck driver.

Survivors include: one daughter, Charlotte Long of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two sons, Gerald Holt of Long Beach, Calif. and Tim Holt of Como; three step-daughters, Barbara Turner of Senatobia, Lela Manus of Como and Cora Hawk of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alice Mae Payne Hubbard


BATESVILLE – Alice Mae Payne Hubbard,  83, died Friday, July 13, 2012.

Services will be held Saturday at noon at South Panola Junior High School. Visitation will be held prior to the services from 11 a.m. until noon and also Friday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at 232 Martin Luther King Drive, Batesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Hubbard and one daughter, Ceola Layrock and one son, Charlie James Hubbard.

Survivors include: four sons, Carl Lee Hubbard of Crenshaw, Robert Hubbard Jr. of Greenville, Matthew Hubbard of Memphis and James Earl Hubbard of Los Angeles; five daughters,  Edna Bishop of Walls, Jean Chatman of Batesville, Mona Hubbard of Houston and Shirley Hubbard of Memphis and Linda Ruth Parker of Sardis; two sisters Edna Wright of Sardis and Charlene Hunt of Como and a host of grandchildren.

Georgia Ann Laughlin


BATESVILLE -Georgia Ann Earwood Laughlin, 72, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at her residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Laughlin, born in Gunnison, June 14, 1940, to the late Andrew J. and Bessie Holcombe Earwood, was a homemaker and a member of The Church of God. She was a radio dispatcher for the Mt. Olivet Fire Department and was editor of the “Mt. Olivet News” portion of The Panolian for many years.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ann Weaver and a son, John Wesley Miller.

Survivors include: her husband, Jon H. Laughlin of Batesville; two daughters, Diane Miller Wolfe of Sardis and Cathy Miller Tutor of Houston, Mo.; four sons, James Miller of Batesville, Jim Laughlin of Humbolt, Tenn., Jeff Laughlin of Florence, Ala. and Jon Alan Laughlin of Buda, Texas; one sister, Beth Earwood Craig of Jackson; one brother, Len Earwood of Jackson; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Katherine Marie Hutchens Stroud


SARDIS – Katherine Marie Hutchens Stroud, 63, formerly of Potts Camp, died Friday, July 13, 2012.Services were held Monday at Holly Springs Funeral Home. Tony Roberts officiated.

Stroud, born July 8, 1949, in Marshall County, to Louise Butler Hutchens of Potts Camp and the late Chester L. Hutchens, was a homemaker.

Survivors along with her mother include: two sons, James Cash of Dumas and Terry Myers of Sardis; one daughter, Kim Stroud of Sardis; four sisters, Lavon Owens of Saucier, Virginia McCallen of Hickory Flat, Denise Hamby of Lakeland, Tenn. and Lynda Williams of Potts Camp and 11 grandchildren.
