Retired South Panola administrator/science teacher D.R. Roberts is often called upon by this newspaper to identify flora and fauna produced by our readers. Monday he produced an Elephant Stag Beetle that he says is “somewhat rare,” and stated, “I haven’t seen one in a long time … Gosh, I can’t remember when.” Roberts said the insect inhabits areas with decayed wood and such and flew up to his back porch Monday afternoon.
