Mattie Mae Rowland Cranford


WATER VALLEY  – Mattie Mae Rowland Cranford, 86, widower of Hershel Marion Cranford, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Acree Hill Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Cranford, born Aug. 12, 1925, in Marks, to the late Tom Watson Rowland and Rena Alice Winters Rowland, was a homemaker.

Survivors include: three daughters, Amy Ales of Tupelo, Catherine Stroud of Batesville, Debbra Connell of Water Valley; four sons, Tommy Gene Cranford of Batesville, Charles Cranford of Mt. Burg, Ark., David Lee Cranford of Water Valley and Richard Allen Cranford of Sumrall; two sisters, Claudie Rowland of Pontotoc and Annie Moore of Oxford; one brother, Dan Rowland of Batesville; 30 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.


Coria Lee Polk


 OXFORD — Coria Lee Polk, 68, died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Oxford.

Services were held Saturday at Askew Grove M.B. Church in Longtown. Rev. Hal Eppenger officiated. Burial was in Askew Grove Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Sardis had charge of arrangements.

A native of Tate County, she was the daughter of the late John Bethel Polk and Bessie Carter Polk. She was a member of Askew Grove M.B. Church in Longtown. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a retired employee of Thermos in Batesville.

She is survived by two daughters, Gwendolyn Smith of Oxford and Sophia Stewart of Horn Lake; two sons, Anthony Todd Polk of Longtown and Darryl Polk of Oxford; four sisters, Georgia Crowder of Memphis, Mary Polk, and Dorothy Polk, both of Longtown and Edna Polk of Clarksdale; two brothers, George Polk and Bethel Polk Jr., both of Memphis; and 11 grandchildren.
