Marie Reid Austin

CROWDER – Marie Reid Austin, 92, widow of Raymond Agnue Austin, died February 24, 2012, at her residence.

Services were held Sunday at Crowder Baptist Church with Reverend Harvey Sewell and Reverend Larry Kilgore officiating. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Mrs. Austin was born in Lambert August 25, 1919 to Henry Cornelius and Liza Jane Murphree Reid. She was retired from Panola Mills and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Crowder Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons: Raymond A. Austin Jr. of Crowder and Tommy Austin of Batesville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Rovelia “Sonny” Carothers

 WATER VALLEY – Rovelia “Sonny” Carothers, 77, died Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Barney Martin will officiate. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.  and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Carothers, born Nov. 8, 1934, in Batesville, to Dudley Carothers and Chesteen Adams, was retired from the unemployment office and a farmer.

Survivors include: two sons, Billy Carothers of Water Valley and Richard Carothers of Courtland; one daughter, Debra Ann Purvis of Compton, Ga.; three sisters, Lorine Clark of Oxford, Dorothy Mae White of Water Valley and Asariner Carothers of Racine, Wis.; one brother, Willie Turner of Las Vegas; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy L. Frederick

Dorothy L. Frederick, 77, widow of George Thomas Frederick, died Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Chris Cooksey will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Mrs. Frederick was born September 3, 1934 in Batesville, to the late James K. and Emily Corrine Hughes Russell. She was a retired factory worker for Joilet Army Ammunition Plant and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Survivors incude: two daughters, Terry Willson of Batesville, Debbie Gross of Olive Branch; two sons, Chuck Frederick of Pope, Barry Frederick of Courtland; two sisters, Ruby Beatty of Virginia and Katherine Cannon of Batesville; one brother, Hollis Russell of Batesville; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Earl Hawkins

CROWDER- Earl Hawkins, 88, died Thursday February 23, 2012 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were held Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Rev. Murphy Eubanks and Rev. David Moore officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Mr. Hawkins was born February 25, 1923, in Holly Ridge, to the late Henry Herman and Nannie Alma Jones Hawkins. He was a member of Crowder Assembly of God Church and was a commercial fisherman for 71 years.

Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Virginia Moore Hawkins of Crowder; daughter, Rita Hawkins Garner of Byhalia; one son, Tommy Hawkins of Crowder; three sisters, Naomi Hawkins Parkey of Alamo, Tenn., Shirley Hawkins Arnold of Memphis, Nan Hawkins Ellis of Roan Mt., Tenn.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be sent to Crowder Assembly of God Church.

Lucis Hibbler

SARDIS- Lucis Hibbler, 73, died Friday, February 23, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

Services were held Sunday at Longtown Church of God in Sarah. Burial was in Askew Grove Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Hibbler was a member of Braham Chapel C.M.E. Church in Como.

Survivors include: three daughters, Shirley Kaye Hibbler Ayers and Rachel Abram, both of Sarah, Bernetta McGhee of Crewnshaw; six sons, Auther Hibbler and Carl Hibbler, both of Sarah, Lucis Hibbler Jr. of Milwaukee, David Hibbler of Virginia Beach, Va., Ron Hibbler of Como and Bernard Harris of Milwaukee; three sisters, Lillian Askew of Crenshaw, Geraldine Harris and Sarah Eppenger, both of Sarah; one brother, Robert Hibbler of Coldwater; 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
