Green Wave comes from behind to defeat Lee

By Brad Greer

With their outside shooting game not working, North Delta resorted to plan B against Lee, Ark.

Using the inside game of  forwards Sam Copeland and Tylor Lee, the Green Wave rebounded from a 22-14 halftime deficit to take a 42-38 come-from-behind victory over the Cougars Saturday afternoon.
Copeland scored 11 of his game-high 16 points in the second half while pulling down 12 rebounds. The sophomore knocked down a short jumper early in the fourth quarter to give the Green Wave a 34-32 lead.
After Andrew Harvey’s three-pointer gave Lee a 35-34 advantage, Renic Greenlee nailed a trey from the corner to give the Green Wave the lead for good, 37-35, with 2:53 remaining in the contest.

North Delta’s (6-15) lead grew to 41-35 as Jonathan Mackey knocked down a pair of free throws with less than a minute to play. Harvey then banked home another trey with seven seconds remaining to make the score 41-38, after a quick foul on the inbounds play, Greenlee hit two free throws to seal the victory.

“We wanted to use our height advantage inside and Sam came out and had a good third quarter. Tylor came in from the high post and hit two or three jumpers from there. Those two guys came through when we needed it today,” said head coach Brad Wilson.

“We got caught napping there in the first half but came back and got after them defensively in the second half. We took better care of the ball and cut down on our turnovers. We struggled today with our outside game, but that’s how it goes. Some days those shots will fall and some days they do not,“ said Wilson.

Lee added all 10 of his points in the second half on five-of-five shooting from the floor. Greenlee also added 10 points in the winning cause. Zach Inman followed with three points while Hunt Howell and Mackey added two each.
