The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Mississippi Crime Lab are investigating an apparent suicide Wednesday night at the Panola County jail, Sheriff Dennis Darby said.

The 44-year-old inmate was “found dead in his cell about 10:50 p.m. by Panola County jail authorities during a routine jail check,” the sheriff said.

The inmate was identified as David Charles Williams. The county jail docket states that the inmate was a white male who lived at 365 Coles Point Road, Batesville. He had been placed in the jail January 8 under a “hold,” the docket states.
