The Panolian’s Facebook page is up and running, and operating under a new page, after being temporarily shut down by editorial staff.

The Panolian closed its Facebook page Nov. 17 after crude comments were posted on its “Wall” about the Panola sheriff’s race.

The new Panolian page includes “Friends” of the newspaper but the page was built without allowing postings on the Wall, said Sports Editor Myra Bean.

A new page, under the name “Panolian Newspaper,” was created on Facebook by Bean.

The Panolian uses its Facebook page to announce upcoming stories prior to publication and to announce breaking news, and directs readers to The Panolian’s Web site, Panolian.com.

The number of Friends had grown to more than 1,000 when the former page was shut down. The new page is accepting updated Friend requests.
